This past winter quarter, I had the opportunity to give back to a part of our chapter that I had not previously been involved with: the pledge process. It was an incredible experience as I watched the small but mighty Alpha Nu pledge class accomplish their goals and exceed many expectations especially for being such a small pledge class. They surpassed all of their benchmarks with flying colors prior to the start of our spring quarter.

The pledge program is unlike any other experience in the fraternity. It is vital to develop a pledge program that motivates and encourages our perspectives to continue to seek a bid from a professional business fraternity. The training and knowledge learned during the pledging process was instrumental in molding me into the successful accounting student that I am today. I felt immense pressure to deliver the same experience and program that I received to the incoming pledge class.

Dom, Calvin, Matt, and I had a lot of fun educating them on a variety of professional development skill sets as well as planning fun bonding events for our pledges. Dom and Calvin were able to teach the Alpha Nu’s on how to create the perfect elevator pitch. Then, they let each of the pledges practice this out on their own and provided them with constructive feedback. This was incredibly helpful in getting to know one another as well as prepare one another for future job interviews or networking opportunities.

Another fun activity that we planned was our ice skating big and little bonding event. This allowed everyone to get out and mingle with current brothers and potential big-little pairings while doing a fun winter sport. This inspired us to then plan a fun beach outing with the pledge class and the pledge team. This allowed us to get off campus, enjoy some beautiful California views, and have some fun playing spike ball and volleyball!

Although the pledge program was cut short due to COVID-19, I truly believe that the Alpha Nu’s are well equipped to become brothers. They are some of the most competitive and creative pledges that I have witnessed to join our chapter over the past few years. I am excited to hopefully celebrate all of their accomplishments as soon as possible!
