Wonsulting Event

In January, SCU DSP got the chance to host the founder and CEO of Wonsulting. Wonsulting is a professional development group oriented around the goal of “turning underdogs into winners.” Since the group was founded, they've volunteered their time to help over 80,000 students and early career professionals gain the knowledge and experience to land their dream jobs.

Wonsulting identified one of the biggest challenges that Santa Clara students face entering the job market: Santa Clara isn’t a name school. While our alumni networks certainly run deep in the bay area, Santa Clara isn’t quite the household name that Stanford and Berkley are. Jonathan Javier, the founder of Wonsulting, knows how difficult landing top tier jobs can be coming from a non-target school. He graduated from UC Riverside and struggled initially to land interviews. Eventually, he was able to network his way into his dream job in strategy operations at Snap.

Jonathan gave us several truly insider tips for how to leverage networking to bridge the gap between non-target school students like us and those from target schools like Berkley, Stanford, etc. He took us through a step by step process for how to find recruiters from any company and get in touch with them. For upperclassmen, it gave brothers a lot to think about for when we go about looking for our internships and full-time jobs. For underclassmen, it gave them an idea as to how to lay the groundwork early for an easier path towards that prestige internship they had their sights set on.

Pre-Covid, we had planned on holding another event with Wonsulting in the fall. We hope to organize another event with them in the future, but that will have to wait until we can meet in person again. In the meantime, however, Wonsulting has made several professional development workshops available on their LinkedIn page that people can check out!
