Summer Internships 2020

Summer internships are an integral part of a student’s professional life. They are where most students gain their first experience in a professional work environment or where they are able to harness their skills and gain exposure to various fields of study. While this year has been unusual, to say the least, the brothers of Gamma Xi have adapted and faced the challenges of a virtual internship. Here are what some of them were up to this summer!

“This summer I worked at a B2B company called Dell Boomi as an Inside Sales Intern! Although it got cut a little bit short due to Covid, I had so much fun helping out the Business Development Reps and Sales managers. Boomi is an IPaaS company (integration platform as a service) and I was able to help out with writing outbound emails, managing leads in Salesforce, and sitting in on calls with clients.

During my two months at Boomi, I learned that internships really are what you make of it. Especially during Covid, when I couldn’t randomly bump into people and have side conversations, I had to be very deliberate and assertive if I wanted to meet other people outside of my department. I was even able to squeeze my way into a side project with the User Experience team! Even through Zoom, I thankfully still felt as if I made meaningful connections with my coworkers, especially my mentor Lily who was my Boomi best friend. Bugging her multiple times daily was one of the top highlights of my internship, so making an effort to really get to know people virtually is definitely worth it!”

“This summer I worked as an Investment Banking Summer Analyst at Momentum Cyber. I worked on live transactions and received client-facing deal experience. Along with due diligence and creating marketing materials for pitches I also learned how to financially model and tell a story behind a company. During the internship, I was able to speak directly with CEO's of $10B+ businesses and executives of F100 companies trying to acquire them. I learned so much in the 12 weeks that I worked with the team and I hope to see some of the deals that I worked on close soon. This internship was a great experience and I hope to transfer the skills I learned at Momentum Cyber to my next internship with Citi this summer.”

“This past summer, I had the opportunity to learn and develop my skills while working with two amazing teams at Intel and EY.

During the first half of summer, I wrapped up an internship at Intel, where I supported the global ethics and legal compliance leadership team. I spent the better part of junior year interning there, which allowed me to dive deeper into the strategy and inner workings of the group. I am passionate about the intersection of ethics and technology, so I really enjoyed seeing how that plays out in the real world at a large tech company.

For the second half of summer, I was a Technology and Transformation intern at EY. Despite being online, it was an incredibly fun and rewarding program - and it was even cooler to do it with three other DSP brothers! We'd jump on a video call at the end of the week to share our experiences, and I was really grateful to have them as a support system as we navigated the highs and lows of a remote internship.

I am so thankful for both of these opportunities, and for my friends and mentors at DSP for helping me both prepare for and reflect on my experiences there as I head into my last year at Santa Clara. I'm excited for what's to come!”

“This summer, I interned virtually at Intel. I worked on a finance team that supported the Global Supply Chain group. Over the course of the summer, I got to learn all about the massive machine that is Intel's world-class supply chain. My projects mostly revolved around market intelligence and financial modeling to help find ways to unlock savings with our suppliers. For these projects, I got to work with amazing and bright people around the world from Taiwan to China to Europe. Starting on a new team remotely was difficult, but overall it was extremely rewarding to work on impactful projects at a company that's changing the world.”
